MEDINA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) –

A Highland High School student suspended, after allegedly threatening to bring a gun to school.

A school official tells 19 Action News they learned about the threat and immediately called the Medina County Sheriffs Office.

When the student arrived at school Wednesday morning, they were stopped before entering the school.

The student did not have a gun.

The student was apparently upset over a game in gym class from Tuesday.

Catherine Aukerman, Highland Schools Superintendent, says they are recommending the student be expelled.

The Highland Local School District wants to reassure parents that every measure was taken to guarantee the safety of our students and staff.

Law enforcement and school officials want to extend a warning to anyone involved in any such threat. These threats are very serious and cause a substantial disruption to school. Any threats will continue to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest.
