Summit County Sheriff’s Deputies who were in Arizona to extradite a prisoner back to Ohio were in the right place at the right time to save a life.

Deputies Mark McElroy and William McKinney were eating at the hotel restaurant on May 12th when they heard commotion at the hotel pool.

They rushed to the pool and observed a man pulling a child from the water.

Deputy McElroy assisted the man and placed the child on the pool deck. The child did not have a pulse and was not breathing. Deputy McElroy began chest compressions and Deputy McKinney began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Both deputies worked together alternating compressions and breaths. After about 2 minutes, the child coughed and regained a pulse. They continued to tend to the child until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on scene.

The Phoenix Fire Department arrived and took over treatment of the child.

Later in the evening, the hotel manager contacted the deputies and advised that the child was in good condition.
