It’s been more than a year since we’ve heard new music from Marsha Ambrosius. Her first solo album, Late Nights & Early Mornings, debuted at #2 and earned the British songbird two Grammy nominations. She recently spoke with ESSENCE, revealing plans and details on her anticipated sophomore release.

“It’s cooked, it’s a well prepared meal with gorgeous side dishes and snacks. With Late Nights and Early Mornings I was very precise in how I wanted it to be, but with this one, I don’t feel like I’m taking chances. I feel like I can be me now,” beamed Marsha.

She continued, “The first time around it was me showing and proving that I had a lane and an avenue to cover. But this album, I definitely had to live it to write it.”

When asked what her Marshians (her legions of die-hard fans) can expect, she says she’ll be singing directly to them. “The sound and authenticity is still there. As far as a difference, you will be able to tell I experienced more this time. There is this expectancy there; I know who I’m talking to. I get to target the people I’ve met along the way.”

Ambrosius plans to perform new songs from the upcoming album at this year’s 2012 ESSENCE Music Festival. And although she remained mum on the album title and guest appearances, Marsha revealed that she’s aiming for a Thanksgiving release.
