Robin Roberts has received her bone marrow transplant, and is currently in medical isolation to prevent infection.
The “Good Morning America” co-host is in the hospital to treat MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder. After draining rounds of chemotherapy, Roberts received a bone marrow transplant from her sister Sally Ann eleven days ago.
The New York Post reported an update about Roberts on Tuesday, writing that she has reached “a crucial juncture” in her treatment. Dr. Andrew Pecora, vice president of cancer services at Hackensack University Medical Center, told the paper that the next two weeks are a critical time for her body to respond to the new bone marrow cells. Her hospital stay, according to medical experts, is expected to last a month while the treatment will continue for several more.
Meanwhile, Roberts’ fans heard from her on Twitter over the weekend. She sought recommendations for songs to play while in isolation, and wrote that friends and family have been visiting her in the hospital.
“I’m doing well, receiving excellent care,” she tweeted. “Now we wait..and pray.”
