Saturday is Sweetest Day, but before you grab your last minute gift consider one local candy guy who’s convinced even the Cleveland Clinic that chocolate is indeed good for you.

Jim Anderson is buying into it with dark chocolate sweets for his sweetie from Fantasy Candies on Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst, “She’s been wonderful to me over the years I know where my bread is buttered.”

But for those of you thinking, “Sweetest Day, Schmeetest Day, don’t I spend enough money on Valentine’s Day?” truth be told, sweetest day is really not about romance.

A Cleveland candy maker, not a greeting card company crafted the tradition in the early 1920s to cheer up shut-ins and orphans.

Something sweet from Fantasy Candies is actually good for you, their Sweet Dreams dark chocolate with 72% cocoa solids comes with an endorsement from the Cleveland Clinic.

Owner Joel Fink says it’s extremely high in antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients.

The Cleveland Clinic’s “Go” program flags nutritious foods and now includes Fantasy Candies’ Sweet Dreams chocolate.

“It does many things for you by increasing blood flow, decreasing chance of stroke and heart attack,” Fink says.

As for his wife, Jim says, “It makes her very happy. Isn’t that all that really matters?”
