Wal-Mart security guard,  Louis Campbell, shot and killed suspected shoplifter and mother of two, Shelly Frey, 27, (pictured above) in the parking lot of a Houston Wal-Mart in front of her two children as she attempted to leave the premises, according to MailOnline.com.

Campbell, an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy, was alerted by in-store security that Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig (pictured below) had been observed hiding items in their purses. When the 26-year veteran confronted the trio, they ran for their car in the parking lot where two small children awaited their return.

The women entered the vehicle, but Campbell did not give up the chase. He opened the door and commanded that they exit, at which point the driver of the car accelerated and attempted to drive off.

“I think it knocked him off balance and, in fear of his life and being ran over, he discharged his weapon at that point,’ said Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The women continued to drive despite Frey being injured and didn’t stop until they made it to a nearby apartment building. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department were called and Frey was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to Frey’s father, Shelton Frey, his daughter “was the perfect mom, perfect friend, perfect daughter,” but she had difficulty making ends meet because she constantly had to stay with her 2-year-old daughter who suffers with sickle cell anemia.

Frey’s mother, Sharon Wilkerson, said that her daughter did not deserve to die and is still shocked that such excessive action was taken.

‘Why couldn’t you just shoot the tire, shoot the window?’ said her mother Sharon Wilkerson. ‘Was it that serious?

“How do I tell these children she’s not coming back?”

Neighbors also voiced their contempt for the actions, saying that the officer should have just shot to stop the car, not inside of the vehicle where two children were sitting.

“What that look like with him shooting with the darn kids in the car? There were kids in the car with them. Why is he shooting at the car? Come on now, that makes him look bad. That don’t even look right,’ said Kesha Sapp.

Earlier this year, Frey pleaded guilty to stealing a package of meat and shirts from Wal-Mart and through a plea arrangement, she agreed to never enter a franchise again.

Tragically, she didn’t stick to those terms and now she’s dead from a bullet to the neck.

According to investigators, Frey’s children were not the two in the vehicle.
