The incident happened at about 8:20 a.m. at the Marriott Courtyard on Orange Place – just off I-271.

Orange Village police said a man, now identified as 59-year-old David Fields, has been charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery.

Authorities said he approached a woman in the parking lot, shot her and then ran across the street – apparently to the Fairfield Inn.

Fields was caught a short time later in a wooded area behind the Fairfield Inn.

Police said the victim suffered some sort of head injury, but it does not appear to be severe.

Arrest records show Fields was found guilty of aggravated murder and sentenced for the crime in 1981. Fields was on parole and was serving time at the Lorain Correctional Institution.

According to Orange Village police, Fields’s motive was “tough times” and he was trying to make due but wasn’t able to do so.
