EUCLID, Ohio – Euclid police are still trying to figure out who was responsible for eight car break-ins at the Morgan Park Apartments in the early morning hours of Jan. 10.
The incident has several residents concerned about safety at the complex, after police confirmed security cameras at the parking garage were not working.
Victims like Anika Evans and Adoris Scott report this isn’t the first time their cars have been vandalized.
“This is fourth time that this has happened to my daughter’s car,” explained Scott. “The first time both the front and back windows were smashed and the tires were slashed.”
Morgan Park resident Craig Brooks told NewsChannel5 he contacted K and D Management about the break-ins, but claims the company has done little to improve security.
“At the end of the day may daughter feels unsafe, because she’s wondering what’s next, our apartments,” said Brooks. “The security cameras aren’t functioning. The police said it’s an ongoing problem. They knew when they came here that there would be no help from the surveillance cameras.”
Brooks claimed the complex is advertised as a “gated community,” but pointed to a front gate he believes has been broken for years.
“They have a security guard posted at the front gate, but now he is only working three days a week,” explained Brooks. “I’ve contacted the management company, but they have made no improvements.”
NewsChannel5 contacted K and D management about the break-ins at the complex and we’re waiting for a statement from the company.
Meanwhile, Brooks believes tenants who were victimized by vandals deserve better security measures.
“It’s definitely apparent the criminals knew that there was no security here. They had ample time to go through eight cars,” said Brooks.
