CLEVELAND – The name of the Cleveland police officer who was shot by a suspect on the city’s east side Monday morning has been identified.

According to authorities, the incident happened on Addison Road and Varian Avenue around 10:25 a.m.

A spokeswoman for CPD said Fifth District patrol officer Bob Taylor was in the area when his car was fired at by a suspect. Taylor was struck one time in his body armor, but was conscious and talking when help arrived.

Officers are still at the scene investigating as the search for the suspect continues. A vague description of the suspect was released by police. They’re looking for a man in his early 20s, about 5’9″ tall and weighing around 170 pounds.

Taylor was released from a local hospital at 2:30 p.m. after being evaluated.

Shortly before noon, police launched their helicopter to aid them in the search for the suspect.
