WARREN, Ohio – The Greater Warren Youngstown Urban League received roughly $10,000 from a fund that was set up to help pay for funeral expenses for the six teens who died in a car crash on March 10.

Tuesday morning, the Urban League announced in a news conference that what was left of the fund collected to help families with burial costs would be used to help fund an education initiative. According to Tom Conley, the initiative is to ensure more students in Warren exceed high school graduation requirements.

The parents of the teens are questioning $60,000 that was announced by Council President Bob Dean, who they say wasn’t showing them records of the account. They have also questioned funeral costs Dean paid to funeral homes. They claim the funerals were only half the $6,000 Dean claims to have paid.

According to Dean, six pastors approved the expenses. He said some of the family members were upset because they wanted the money.

Both the Warren Police Department and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Charitable Law Division are investigating this case.
