Hillary Clinton is dropping major clues that she plans to run for president in 2016. Although the former secretary of state has yet to make the official announcement, she recently told an audience in Toronto that the United States needs a female president now — wink, wink.

During a private speech posted to YouTube on Friday, Clinton said a woman in the White house would send “exactly the right historical signal to girls and women, as well as boys and men.”

“Let me say this, hypothetically speaking, I really do hope that we have a woman president in my lifetime,” she said with a smile. “And whether it’s next time or the next time after that, it really depends on women stepping up and subjecting themselves to the political process, which is very difficult.”

The 2008 presidential candidate added, “I will certainly vote for the right woman to be president.”

Clinton went on to cite the words Eleanor Roosevelt, who said that women in politics need skin as “thick as a rhinoceros.”

“I think there is still truth to that, so you have to step up, you have to dare to compete, you have to get into the process and then the country, our country, has to take that leap of faith,” she said.

What do you think about former First Lady Clinton as president? Would she be the right contender to succeed Barack Obama? Weigh in below.
