MANSFIELD, OH (WOIO) –

A nationwide manhunt is underway for an inmate who escaped from the Mansfield Correctional Institution.

The inmate, James Davis Myers, 47, was last seen before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

No details of the escape are being released, but he was assigned to a work detail in the maintenance section of the prison.

Myers is labeled a sexually violent predator, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Myers was admitted to Mansfield Correctional Institution in December 2008 for eight felony charges.

According to his offender record, Myers’ charges include: two counts of rape, a weapons charge, aggravated burglary, corruption with drugs, and menacing by stalking. All of his felonies were committed in Summit County.

Prison officials say they have been in contact with the victim, now that Myers is on the loose.
