CLEVELAND – The future home of Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream on West 25th in Cleveland was struck by fire around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

On-lookers said heavy smoke was pouring from the building as firefighters worked on the roof and second floor of the Moda Building at 1867 West 25th Street.

Cleveland fire officials said the cause in unknown, but the building was under a full renovation. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

Mitchell’s tweeted the damage is minor and will not affect plans to open later this year.

Mitchell’s purchased the building last year and intends to move their headquarters to the location from their current home in Rocky River.
