ASHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) –

Ohio Highway Patrol Troopers stopped a rented 2013 Ford Taurus, with Ohio registration, for a taillight violation on Interstate 71 southbound, near milepost 187 in Ashland County at 10:52 p.m., on July 17.

Troopers observed several criminal indicators and a Ashland County Sheriff’s Department drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle.
A probable cause search revealed four Diazepam pills and approximately three grams of marijuana in the center console. Troopers also located two large cardboard boxes containing 30 pounds of marijuana.

The driver, Jason V. Powell, 35, from Middleburg Heights was incarcerated in the Ashland County Jail and charged with possession and trafficking in marijuana, both third-degree felonies.
The contraband has a street value of $137,410.
