*Ten African-American contestants who appeared on “American Idol” during its first nine seasons have filed a lawsuit against the show claiming that the producers concocted a cruel and inhumane plot to embarrass them by revealing their past arrest records on the air.

During introductory videos, the suit claims, the contestants were made out to be violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants, when in fact none of them had ever been convicted of committing the crimes for which they had been arrested.

The lawsuit also claims that no Caucasian contestant was ever questioned about a prior arrest. They further claim that their lives and careers were harmed by the exposure of their arrest records on national television.

They are each seeking a minimum of $25 million in damages. The lawsuit, first reported by TMZ, listed the plaintiffs as Corey ClarkJaered AndrewsJacob John SmalleyDonnie WilliamsTerrell BrittenumDerrell BrittenumThomas DanielsAkron WatsonJu’Not Joyner, and Chris Golightly.
