CLEVELAND —  The Second District Community Relations Committee posted on its Facebook page this afternoon a handwritten thank you note that Cleveland Police Second District officers say is from Michelle Knight.

She is one of three women rescued from a home on Seymour Avenue on May 6 after being held captive for more than a decade by Ariel Castro.

In the note sent to the Second District commander, officers and staff, Knight writes: “You don’t know how much I appreciate all your time & work collecting cards and gifts from people for me and the other girls. … Life is tough, but I’m tougher!” The note is signed Michelle Knight, MK.

The Second District describes Knight as a “strong and resilient woman.”

You can read the entire note on the Second District’s Facebook page.

Castro has pleaded guilty to more than 900 charges in connection involving the abduction of Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

Prosecutors and defense have recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole, plus 1,000 years.  Castro will be formally sentenced tomorrow.
