PENINSULA, Ohio – Two hikers found human remains in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on Monday.
The park service said the hikers reported finding the possible human jawbone near the Valley Picnic Area at about 5 p.m. The National Park Service said the bones are human.
On Tuesday, the FBI Evidence Response Team searched the area. Chief Ranger Chris Ryan said a partial skull and other bones were found in addition to the jawbone. Clothing was also located.
The case is being treated as a homicide until proven otherwise. Chief investigation Gary Guenther with the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office said the bones will be analyzed by a forensic anthropologist and that they have been there for “quite some time.”
The medical examiner’s office said age, gender and race have not been determined, and it could take several weeks to get results.
Authorities said they will look for any connection to missing Akron woman 19-year-old Taylor Robinson. She was last seen on May 3 when her mother dropped her off for work as a home health aid at a house on Kipling Street.
