EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost said East Cleveland is the “worst city in Ohio” when it comes to finances during an interview with NewsChannel5 Thursday.

State auditors reviewed the city’s finances in 2011 and 2012 and found that the city spent $5.5 million more than what was appropriated from its accounts – an expenditure that is illegal in Ohio.

Yost said they found the city’s finances are in “continued disarray” and that the city’s “lack of financial management is both unsustainable and irresponsible.”

Yost said it’s unlikely to lead to charges.

The auditors also found the city spent more money than it  had in estimated resource out of several funds.
