CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –
Cleveland police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a little girl on the city’s west side.
32-year-old Geoffrey Gurkovich was arrested without incident in Newburgh Heights with the assistance of Cleveland Police.
According to police, Gurkovich went to the location over a verbal dispute. However, the Brooks family was not the target.
Jermani Brooks, 5, and her mother, Noni, 33, were both shot in the head as they sat in an SUV in the 12800 block of Crossburn Avenue. Jermani was killed and Noni remains hospitalized in good condition.
Two other children were in the SUV at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.
