*Barbara Walters defended Woody Allen on Monday’s episode of “The View,” despite the open letter written by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow accusing the legendary writer-director of sexually assaulting her.
Referring to her long friendship with Allen and seeing how he behaves around his two daughters with wife Soon-Yi Previn, Walters said, “I have rarely seen a father as sensitive, as loving and as caring as Woody is and Soon-Yi to these two girls. I don’t know about Dylan. I can only tell you what I have seen now.”
But “View” co-host Sherri Shepherd pointed out that we often hear that people accused of doing horrible things were seen as loving and caring.
“We’ve heard so many cases of people going, ‘He was the most wonderful person in the world. I would have never thought he would’ve…,’ ” Shepherd said.
Walters quickly interjected that that’s not what she’s saying, but Shepherd added that there are “many things that go on behind closed doors.”
Shepherd also pointed out that Allen has a track record of being attracted to young women, which led to additional squabbling with Walters.
Walters insisted she was not saying what Shepherd said and that it’s unfair to criticize Allen now.
