*Jada Pinkett Smith is adding to her television slate – this time in front of the camera.

The actress, who currently executive produces “The Queen Latifah Show,” will co-star opposite Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue in Fox‘s Batman prequel drama “Gotham,” reports Deadline.com.

Based on DC Comics characters from the Batman universe, “Gotham” explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon (McKenzie) as an idealistic rookie detective in Gotham City, along with Batman’s alter-ego Bruce Wayne and the villains who made Gotham City famous.

Smith will play Fish Mooney, “a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner who has the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed.”

The actress will be working closely with Robin Lord Taylor, who is playing Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the young version of the villain The Penguin. Taylor’s character is a low-level gangster working for Mooney, and will likely work his way into Mooney’s inner circle before ascending to the crown.

Also cast on the show, which has a series commitment for next season from Fox, are  Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth.

Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”) wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon (“CSI,” “Nikita”) will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Pinkett Smith, who starred in television on the NBC comedy “A Different World,” also toplined and executive produced the TNT drama “Hawthorne.”
