KENT, Ohio – A shot fired at Kent State University Wednesday that sent the campus into lockdown stemmed from a domestic dispute between the suspect and two women, Kent State Police said this morning.
Kent police arrested 24-year-old Quavaugntay Tyler, a freshman, after they said he pulled out a gun and accidentally shot himself in the hand during an argument with two women. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and is expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
Reports of a single shot being fired near Bowman Hall on the KSU main campus went out around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Executive Director of University Media Relations Eric Mansfield, the campus is back to regular operations.
School officials held a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday, identifying Tyler, who is on probation on a theft charge in Brimfield, and detailing the investigation and security efforts by law enforcement officers.
