CLEVELAND – Despite a packed house of teachers armed with blue shirts and signs reading, “I support my sister”, the Cleveland School board voted 9-0 to approve recommendations to fire 17 teachers.

The teachers were notified earlier this month that their contracts would not be renewed.

“They were blindsided,” said Cleveland Teachers Union president David Quolke.

Well over a hundred teachers sounded-off against the dismissal during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Teachers said things like, “We are the most mistreated in the school district.”

Others said, “It doesn’t matter how good a teacher you are in this district because you might find yourself fired at the end of the school year.”
