Tressel becomes YSU’s newest president after a stint working at the University of Akron.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –

Jim Tressel credited values instilled by his parents for bringing him to the podium at Youngstown State University on Monday, as he was installed as the ninth university president.

The former Penguin and Buckeye football coach addressed a crowd after taking the oath inside the gymnasium at Beeghly Center.

Tressel, whose parents were both educators, said they taught him that leadership is not a position you hold, but actions you demonstrate to others.

Before Tressel took the oath, Ohio Governor John Kasich talked about the lives of Tressel and his wife Ellen.

The Governor said that Tressel carries the same blue collar, hard working, God fearing values that Kasich says connects us together.

The Governor received a round of applause when he asserted that the economic downturn that began with the closing of the steel mills in the Valley is now over. He said that the struggle has been won and Youngstown is on it’s way back.
