After years without a proper Oscar nomination, Legendary actor/singer and social activist Harry Belafonte will be getting his due at a stand-alone ceremony later this year.
Belafonte will be receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his work on and off-screen. Aside from blazing trails in films such as “Carmen Jones” and “The World, The Flesh, and The Devil,” Belafonte was active in the Civil Rights Movement and named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1987.
Other recipients this year include Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki and actress Maureen O’Hara. The ceremony will take place on November 8.
