Earlier this month a website claimed Vertasha and her mother Mary Carter were seeking public acceptance for their lesbian romance.
The site quoted ‘Mary’ as saying, “My mom is still my mom. She does normal mom stuff: buys me clothes, pays for food, tells me to make our bed. We just happen to enjoy sex with each other too.”
As the article went viral, a twitter feed sprang up claiming to be from the couple.
“If Vertasha and I were a white mother-daughter same sex couple it would be encouraged. Once again, white privilege,” one of the tweets claimed.
Urban myth-busting website Snopes.com decided to do some digging into the story.
The original article only seemed to have one source, and the picture used for it came from a 2012 blog post advertising a Mother’s Day event in Winnipeg.
It had just been flipped to avoid Google search.
In other words, the article is a HOAX aka FAKE – though it’s still unclear whether the website was in on it or not.
Thank ya lawd this aint really happening!
