It has not even been a week since nurse Amber Vinson (pictured), who cared for Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan, was diagnosed with the dreaded virulent disease.  Now, according to Vinson’s family, she is free of Ebola and is doing great, reports Yahoo! News.

“We are overjoyed to announce that, as of yesterday evening, officials at Emory University Hospital and the Centers for Disease Control are no longer able to detect the virus in her body. She has also been approved for transfer from isolation,” the family said.

Debra Berry, who is Vinson’s mother, is reportedly under quarantine because she had spent time with her 29-year-old daughter. Vinson was Duncan’s nurse during the time he was hospitalized for Ebola at the Dallas hospital where she works.  After Duncan passed away on October 8th, Vinson was diagnosed with the virus thereafter.  Another colleague of Vinson’s, who also treated Duncan at the hospital, Nina Pham, contracted the ravaging virus and is currently being cared for at a medical facility in Maryland.

Pham’s condition was just upgraded from fair to good.

Dallas officials state that some 108 hospital employees were active participants in Duncan’s care and will continue to be monitored for any signs of Ebola, the virus that has taken the lives of nearly 4,900 people in West Africa.

Despite the Vinson family’s good news about Amber, the CDC says not so fast! CDC spokesperson Jason McDonald, said that he was not aware of Vinson’s recovery.  “A healthcare provider will determine by diagnostic whether a patient is free of Ebola virus,” McDonald said in an e-mail. “We have criteria we ask medical staff to meet but the determination is made by [the] medical care provider.”

There were about 50 people who also came into contact with Duncan, including his own family, and they were all reportedly given clearance this week, after being vigilantly monitored during Ebola’s 21-day incubation period. Humans are not infectious until they develop symptoms.

Meanwhile, Vinson is said to be getting stronger with each passing day and her spirits are high.
