CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

The snow has begun to fall in the Greater Cleveland region and is expected to continue, marking the first measurable snowfall of 2015. With heavy snow in the forecast, Ohio Department of Transportation District 12 snowplow drivers are scheduled to begin 12-hour shifts at noon Monday.

ODOT crews began pretreating roadways Sunday afternoon to help reduce the chances of ice bonding to the pavement. A total of 80 crews in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties will work around the clock plowing, salting and treating roads as necessary until this event is over.

Snow accumulations are expected to be heavy in some areas, however snow totals will vary. Motorists should be prepared for conditions to change mile by mile and minute by minute. Increase your following distance and decrease speed while driving in snowy conditions.
