The View is looking mighty cloudy over at the troubled ABC talk show these days. On the heels of reports the show’s new co-host Rosie Perez is on the way out, a Latina leadership group is calling the show’s executive producers out for comments made about Rosie in Variety and the New York Daily News. A group calling themselves, #YoSoyRosie is coming after producers after the a quote in a Daily News story regarding Rosie’s possible departure saying she, “is not the sharpest tool in the box” and a Variety article with a source remarking she, “can’t read a TelePrompTer.”

Both articles never revealed The View staffer which made the comments but that hasn’t stopped the group from reading the show and insisting on an apology from the producers. In the open letter HelloBeautiful’s obtained, the group writes:

It doesn’t take a genius to read into the racist and sexist language hurled against Ms.Perez. Questioning a woman’s intelligence is an old stereotype that is sexist and in this case, also racist. The stereotype that Latinas are stupid is outrageous. There is no excuse for this behavior. Network officials should not tolerate this kind of racist conduct. The fact that the leaks come from one of your staffers is deeply offensive. Implicit in the insider comments is that Ms. Perez is unintelligent and illiterate.

They are coming for blood! The group further stated:

The fact that in less than four months someone from your staff and network is slandering her is not only outrageous but, unacceptable. We are furthermore disappointed that industry leader, Variety, chose to go with a story quoting an anonymous insider and failed to give Ms. Perez and her management an opportunity to respond. This is shoddy journalism at its best. Your bland statement in response to Variety’s article that Rosie Perez’ “status with the show has not changed,” added insult to injury. Ms. Perez, Latinas and the entire Latino community merits respect, not insults. We expect more from the staff of “The View” and ABC network. When you disparage the only Latina on “The View” you disparage all Latinas. Rosie Perez and by extension, all Latinas, deserve an immediate apology.

The letter signed by over 80 names, boasts highly regarded members such as, Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez, Former Secretary of State, New York, Melissa Mark-Viverito, City Council Member, Speaker, New York City Council and former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres. The View has yet to comment on the letter. Rosie is currently on hiatus from the show due to being in rehearsal for a Broadway play until the end of January, where she is expected to return.
