Elliot Anderson (Kevin Costner) is suddenly left to care for his Black granddaughter Eloise after his wife was killed in a tragic car accident. However, Eloise’s paternal grandmother Rowena (Octavia Spencer) seeks to care for her, inciting a bitter custody battle that is proves family is everything but simply black or white.
Spencer is charming and charismatic as she embodies the essence of a strong Black grandmother in “Black or White.” The Academy Award-winning actress’ outspoken personality carries the emotional film.
While Spencer is magnetic, her brother Jeremiah (played by Anthony Mackie) delivers a stellar performance as well.
