Patricia Arquette wanted everyone to get a few things straight about the comments she made during her Oscars acceptance speech.
The “Boyhood’ star has gotten a lot of criticism for calling on gay people and people of color to fight for women and wage equality, demanding that they “fight for us now” as women fought for them. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America” she declared on Sunday night. “It’s time for us. It’s time for women. Equal means equal.”
Equal rights and pay sound great! However, many women of color and those from the LGBTQ community felt that Patricia was inadvertently excluding them from the community of women she’s advocating for in her speech. Twitter users did not hesitate to take her to task.

However, Patricia hit up Twitter to clarify that she was, in fact, speaking out for women of every race and sexual preference in her speech.

Then the actress neatly wrapped up her explanation by accusing anyone who disagrees with her of supporting two-fold discrimination in the form of racism and sexism. Though some accused her of being oblivious to the compounded problem for women of color, Patricia let them know she is very aware of how much worse the problem of wage inequality can be for women that are not White.
