CLEVELAND — Thousands of visitors will pump about $8 million to $10 million into the regional economy as the nation’s sports spotlight focuses on Cleveland this week. That is the “guesstimate” from Destination Cleveland’s David Gilbert.

Cleveland will join Los Angeles, Houston and Syracuse hosting a Regional Semifinal in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

And Cleveland’s Midwest Regional may well be the marquee event because it includes the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats, the tournament favorite, trying to finish a perfect undefeated season.

Kentucky faces Wichita State Thursday. Notre Dame squares off with West Virginia, also on Thursday.

Three of the four teams are close enough to be within driving distance of Cleveland.

The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission’s Meredith Scerba said, ” We’re just so blessed to have an amazing bracket between Notre Dame, West Virginia and Kentucky, we’re expecting to see lots of fans….to fill our hotels, eat in our restaurants and enjoy some good old fashioned march madness.”

Expect to see a lot of blue-wearing Kentucky Nation fans.
