A 99-year old woman shed a few tears on Friday as she graduated from the College of the Canyons. Doreetha Daniels has been studying at the community college since 2009 and was determined the earn her degree even as she suffered strokes and lost her driver’s license. Inspired by her grandchildren, Doreetha shared inspirational words with the crowd at the ceremony:

99, here I am. I accomplished what I wanted to do, and this is my dream come true.” [KTLA]

According to the LA Times, a Bay Area teacher asked students to take a picture with their parent’s sex toys for extra credit. At Encinal High School, the students were told to look through their parents drawers for condoms and sex toys to pose with for the selfie. The teacher claims it was a joke, and it’s unknown whether any students followed through with the request. Parents are demanding that the teacher be fired, but for now he or she has been placed on leave. [Complex]

A tiny school district in Idaho, far removed from police presence, has purchased firearms and trained their staff to use them. The Garden Valley School District is made up of less than 300 students, and limited funds have prevented the hiring of police officers to patrol the building during school hours. As a result, the school board approved the purchase of the guns as long as they remain locked inside the school. Six employees have been trained to use them in the event of an emergency, such as a shooting rampage as we have seen in other parts of the country. [ABC]

New blood alcohol sensors have taken the fight against drunk driving a step further. The new technology could cause cars to shut down if they sense drivers are over the legal blood alcohol limit. A video showcasing the technology has been posted to YouTube. Watch above. [Daily Mail]
