“Everyone wants to do my job!” Is Whoopi Goldberg leaving ‘The View’ once she receives the last of her $5 million salary?
Outspoken host of The View, Whoopi Goldberg may be nearing the end of her tenure on the talk show. According to The Daily Mail, former producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Candi Carter was recently brought in to help reinvigorate the series, which has steadily declined in ratings.
The co-hosts found her to be too controlling and Whoopi was the only one who spoke up. The straw that broke the camel’s back was Carter and the producers allegedly having the “Hot Topics” briefing meeting moved from 9am to 8:30am. This enraged Whoopi who reportedly reminded the producers, ‘I’m contractually obligated to be here at 9am and you won’t see me a minute earlier.’
Supposedly Whoopi was so outraged at being left out of the meeting that she stormed around the ABC offices saying, “I’s a work for ABC who is my master. I’s a slave to ABC. It’s 12 Years a Whoopi at ABC.”‘
Whoopi is in the last year of her four-year $5-million-per-annum contract that has a “pay-to-play clause” stating that whether she gets fired or the show gets canceled, she still gets paid.
A source close to The View said that the producers are looking to let Whoopi finish out the year then have Joy Behar become the regular moderator and bring back Sherri Shepherd.
TMZ caught Whoopi outside of ABC and asked her about the alleged outburst to which she replied, “I don’t do meltdowns, I’m a grown woman and I guess people can’t just let me do me and do my job. Everyone wants to do my job.”
Whoa! We can read between the shade! Between all of the daytime talk show options from The Real, The Talk, Wendy Williams and more, are we really checking for another season of The View? Is it time for the show to be canceled?
