CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns Head Coach Mike Pettine and General Manager Ray Farmer addressed the media on Tuesday, just as the NFL trade deadline expired.

Pettine said quarterback Johnny Manziel is not the confirmed starter for Thursday’s game in Cincinnati, but Josh McCown remains day-to-day after suffering several hard hits during Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The team will evaluate McCown over the next few days before a starting decision is made.

“From a mentality standpoint, I think they’ve both taken the mentality that they’re the starter,” Pettine said of both quarterbacks.

Back-up quarterback Austin Davis also is involved with game plans. Pettine said he feels confident in Davis, should he have to play Thursday.

The trade deadline ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and Pettine called all the rumors swirling around last Sunday “unfortunate” and “disappointing.”

Joe Thomas was one of the key names mentioned in trade rumors. NFL reporter and analyst Ian Rapaport reported that the Browns and Denver Broncos failed to reach a deal involving Thomas before the 4 p.m. deadline. Pettine remained mum on any deals.

“You talk about the Cleveland Browns, that’s usually one of the first names you think of,” Pettine said of Thomas.
