Over 400 miles from where the San Bernardino shooting took place yesterday, a group of police officers fatally shot a man – an incident bystanders partially caught on camera.

According to ABC7, the incident happened in the Bay View District of San Francisco around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after a civilian told police he was stabbed in the shoulder by an unidentified man. When police tracked the man down according to the victim’s description, they found him in possession of a 6-8 inch kitchen knife. San Francisco Chief Greg Suhr said attempts to bring the man to a halt with bean bag pellets did not work.

After intense pursuit, the man was cornered by over four officers with their guns drawn. The cell phone Instagram video moves away just before several shots are heard.

ABC7 reports:

He told the media police “deployed standard bean bag gun several times striking the suspect.

He did not drop the weapon. They called for a higher powered, less lethal — that was deployed. It actually knocked the suspect to the ground. He did not drop the knife, he got up again.”

“This suspect had already shown by committing a felony aggravated assault that he was a danger to others, so he could not be allowed to move away from the scene,” Suhr said.

A police spokeswoman said the video “doesn’t show the whole story” and the department planned to release a statement later, Huffington Post reports. The motive behind the stabbing is currently unknown, and the victim is expected to recover.
