Joseph Fiennes

Joseph Fiennes, a White English actor most known for his role in Shakespeare In Love, will be playing Michael Jackson in a new movie about his road trip with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando called Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon. According to Entertainment Weekly:

That story claims Jackson invited Taylor and Brando to his concert at Madison Square Garden. A former employee of Jackson’s told the magazine that after the 9/11 attacks, unable to fly out of New York, the trio got in a car and drove themselves as far as Ohio.

Why they couldn’t choose one of the many talented Black actors in Hollywood for this role is a mystery.

The cast of Underground – a new show coming to WGN about a group of runaway slaves heading north for freedom – was in attendance at the Sundance Film Festival this week.

The producers and actors partnered with the Blackhouse Foundation for a panel that featured Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Alano Miller, Jessica De Gouw, and more. The after party for Underground was popping and welcomed appearances from guests like Ava DuVernay.

Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson won’t be boycotting the Oscars. In an interview posted on The Hollywood Reporter, Richardson Jackson said you gotta be there where it happens:

“Of course, I was upset because Sam didn’t get nominated, but then we moved on,” the Show Me a Hero actress told The Hollywood Reporter just before participating in a starry tribute to playwright Arthur Miller on Monday night in New York City. “We are of a different generation — we lived through the black power movement — so we moved on. … I’m disturbed by it all, but we gotta remember: the Oscars is one night.”

She also talked about her theory on why her husband’s The Hateful Eight didn’t get nominated, saying most of the Academy’s six thousand members probably didn’t see the film, because there’s no way you could see Tarantino’s movie and not nominate it!

Congrats to Empire and Master of None, two of the many shows to be nominated for a GLAAD Media award.

The nominees, announced Wednesday, include such standouts as Oscar nominees Carol and The Danish Girl, as well as the overlooked coming of age flick Dope. Quite a few television series were also honored, including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Empire, Master of None, Orange Is the New Black, Transparent, Please Like Me, Orphan Black, Sense8, and many more critical and audience favorites. Reality series I Am Cait, I Am Jazz, and The Prancing Elites Project also got nods.
