CLEVELAND – Back in May, it was reported that the Smithsonian Institute was interested in preserving the gazebo where Tamir Rice was shot.
Shortly after that report, the Smithsonian said it was not true and they were not pursuing preservation of the gazebo.
Now, according to the City of Cleveland, the gazebo will be torn down and sent to a museum in Chicago.
Councilman Matt Zone says Cleveland has been working with the Rice family for about six months because they wanted the gazebo removed.
He said that the city would not remove it until the investigation was concluded.
