OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) – This morning in a federal courtroom in Oxford, Jaelyn Young learned her fate after attempting to join ISIS.
Young, from Vicksburg, was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison after pleading guilty back in March to conspiring and attempting to join a foreign terrorist organization.
In August 2015, Young and her fiance, Muhammed Dakhlalla from Starkville, were arrested by federal agents at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport in Columbus. Prosecutors say the two had plans to fly to Turkey then cross into Syria to join the terror group.
