MASSILLON, Ohio– Police arrested a suspect in the abduction of a 9-year-old girl in Massillon earlier this week.

Dennis L. Menefee Jr., of Port Washington, 46, was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Fairfield County Sheriff’s deputies. He was wanted on warrants for rape, kidnapping, assault and aggravated menacing.

On Monday, a 9-year-old was walking home from the library when she was abducted near St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Massillon police said the suspect told the victim he was a police officer and she was reported missing.

The girl was forced into the truck and driven to a nearby parking lot, where she was sexually assaulted, beaten and threatened, according to police. The victim walked home and told her family, who called police.

Based on the girl’s description of the truck, investigators were able to find surveillance video from area businesses. Those photos were shared, prompting a person to call the police department with information.
