CANTON, OH (WOIO) –

During a press conference on Friday afternoon, officials identified the victims and suspect that were killed in the shooting that took place in Canton on Thursday. Police are considering the incident a triple homicide-suicide.

Police say the suspect, 21-year-old Tres Peterson, purchased a 9mm handgun gun just after noon on Thursday. A short time later, Peterson’s ex-fiance, 20-year-old Cheyenne Calderon and her friend, 25-year-old Brandon Posey spotted Peterson near the home where the shooting occurred at 529 Smith Avenue. Calderon and Posey then went to the residence.

At 1:38 p.m., police said Peterson entered the home where Calderon was and immediately shot the dog. Calderon, along with her 50-year-old mother Kelly Freshour and her 70-year-old friend Timothy Keyser, were chased through the house as Peterson began firing rounds at them. He fired approximately 14 shots. The three attempted to flee from the home, but Peterson fatally shot all three.

Brandon Posey and Cheyenne’s 3-year-old son were in the living room at the time of the shooting. Posey grabbed the boy and the two were able to flee from the house safely.

Peterson then went into the living room and shot and killed himself.
