AKRON, OH (WOIO) –
The Akron Fire Department said crews are on the scene of an explosion and fire at Emerald Performance Materials, a chemical facility.
The fire department said the incident happened at 12:54 p.m. Wednesday at 240 West Emerling Avenue.
Fire officials say Emerald Performance Materials has multiple chemicals on site.
City officials evacuated the immediate area; including, the workers inside the Russell M. Pry Building at 1180 South Main Street and the Akron METRO RTA offices on Kenmore Boulevard.
The Russell M. Pry Building will be closed for the rest of the day.
