CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –
The Cleveland Police Department confirms the rider of the electric scooter that was hit by a car on East 9th Street on Saturday night at about 10:00 p.m. has died.
According to police, 19-year-old Scott A. McHugh was driving a Chevy Cruz well in excess of the posted 25 MPH speed limit southbound on East 9th Street while the 21-year-old woman operating an ICON G electric scooter was riding southbound on East 9th Street ahead of the Chevy approaching St. Clair Avenue.
The Chevy reportedly struck the rear of the scooter, ejecting the victim onto the roadway.
Police say the victim was taken to MetroHealth Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The suspect did not sustain any injuries from the crash, according to police.
However, police say he was taken to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center for evaluation before being booked and housed at the county jail for aggravated vehicular homicide.
