Rapper Cardi B surprised fans when she announced on Wednesday that she and husband Offset have called it quits after a year of marriage, saying “I guess we just grew out of love.”
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper, 26, revealed the news through a video on Instagram, in which she says… “So everybody been bugging me and everything and you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now,” Cardi began.
“We are really good friends and we are really good business partners — you know he’s always somebody that I run to to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”
“It’s nobody fault I guess we just grew out of love, but we are not together anymore. I don’t know, it might take time to get a divorce and I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father,” she concluded.
Cardi and Offset married secretly in September 2017 and had a child in July.
Offset responded to her Instagram post about their break up with the comment, “Y’all won.”
As noted by sandrarose.com:
Cardi’s friends and family warned her about Offset, but she wouldn’t listen. They told her that a man with multiple baby mamas was not a good candidate for marriage, but she wouldn’t listen; they said she shouldn’t sign with Offset’s record label in Atlanta, Quality Control Records but she wouldn’t listen; they warned her not to become his 4th baby mama — but she wouldn’t listen.
While the split comes as a shock to many fans, some are convinced that it’s nothing more than a lame-ass PR stunt as Offset has a solo album dropping within weeks.
“Naaaa this is a stunt because how u say s— haven’t been working out for a long time? Y’all was just posted up lovey dovey! I know u Cardi…. u don’t do fake love! I call bulls—,” one fan wrote in the comment section of Cardi’s video.
Her announcement comes days after Cardi shared photos of herself and Offset kissing at a recent Lakers game.
She also captioned a recent video post of the Migos rapper with “Fine ass I’ll suck ya d— right thruu this phone… hubby album coming 12-14.”
