HBO has officially given a series order for a half-hour sketch show, set to be executive produced by Issa Rae and Robin Thede, called A Black Lady Sketch Show. In addition to that EP role, Thede is also slated to be the program’s star.

Deadline reports that Thede (who also gets credits as the show’s creator, while quadrupling as a writer) will be “written and directed by an array of black women,” and will also have narrative sketches with a core cast comprised of black women in addition to featured celebrity guests. Given the title of the show this would all seem to make sense.

Additionally, the project will be counted as a part of Rae’s overall deal with the premium network.

Previously, Thede was the creator, executive producer, and host of BET’s late-night show The Rundown with Robin Thede, which ran for one season and was on the air as recently as nine months ago. Before that she was the head writer, in addition to being a correspondent, for Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. She was also the head writer for Wilmore when he hosted the White House Correspondents Dinner back in 2016, and is currently in the midst of developing a scripted project for ABC.
