Democratic National Convention: Day Three

While all the momentum behind the State of the Union has subsided, one usually vocally person was noticeably absent from this year’s State of the Union Address.

Auntie Maxine has been relatively mum lately, but as we know silence when words can’t. Essence Magazine caught up with the California congresswoman a day before Trump’s impending speech where she broke down the who, what, when, where and why she would not be attending Tuesday’s address.

“I don’t even know why he wants to come and give the State of the Union.

The state of the union under him has not been good. And he has been divisive, and I think he’s putting us all in harm’s way. And so he is not worthy of being listened to.

I don’t know why anybody would want to pay attention to anything that he has to say. He lies over and over again, like I said. 6,000 lies have been documented since he’s been there. I just can’t imagine what he’s going to try and say!

But since he is a great liar, he’ll say anything, uh, because he’s capable of saying anything without facts, without research. And so, I’m not looking forward to his State of the Union, and I hope people will turn the television off!”

As we could clearly see from all the viral photos on Tuesday night, Waters stayed clear from the Capitol building, and refrained from wearing “Suffragette white” with her Democratic colleagues as a nod to access for women and the record-breaking number of women voted to congress this year.

But Waters has much work to during this session of congress. As key member of the House Financial Services committee. On Wednesday CNN reported Waters met with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to discuss possible dates to discuss the Trump administration’s decision to reduce sanctions on companies affiliated with a Russian businessman who has ties to Vladmir Putin.

It’s clear that Auntie Maxine is booked and busy, and has nary a moment for Trump’s shenanigans.
