Back in 2016 an accidental text message showed the true meaning of Thanksgiving when Wanda Dench accidentally texted Jamal Hinton inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner.  Although the message was intended for her grandson, God had another plan sending Jamal, a tradition that has been going on ever since, hence her title ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’.  As heartwarming as that story was and still is, this Thanksgiving coming up is going to hit a little different for the newly formed family members as sad news is being shared that ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’ has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Jamal Hinton shared the news on his X formerly known as Twitter with a selfie of himself and Wanda from the first time they met with the caption “Here is a special message from Wanda,”  in which the now 67-year-old ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’ began her message with sharing that despite her current health battle, her and Jamal will honor their tradition.

According to Wanda Dench who is undergoing chemotherapy and will be starting radiation treatment:

“I was talking to Jamal the other day. We were talking about Thanksgiving, how we always get together for Thanksgiving, and I told him how wonderful people were around me that were helping me through this process and I wanted to give back, do something. And I’ve always been told to speak from my heart. So I thought about it, and what I realized, I wanted people to know, no matter how old you are, get your checkups,” she encouraged.

As for Thanksgiving next month?

“We are definitely going to get together. We haven’t finalized the plans yet. I will see whether I can travel down to the Phoenix area so that they can do the cooking in their kitchen. If I’m not up to it, then they will come up here and they can do the cooking in my kitchen.”

We are going to be keeping Wanda Dench uplifted in our prayers, while we send a pray for healing as well.
