Black Music Month originated in 1979. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of June as Black Music Month to celebrate the wonderful music, the achievements, births, important timelines, events and to remember those we lost.
1. James Weldon Johnson

1871: James Weldon Johnson was born on this day. He was a songwriter, poet, journalist, critic & writer as well as the co-author of ‘Lift Every Voice & Sing’ He passed away in 1938 at age 67. (Photo: Youtube)
