1. Tyler, The Creator – DON'T TAP THE GLASS

After cryptically teasing something last week across social media and in New York City following his sold out Barclays performances, Tyler, The Creator releases new album DON’T TAP THE GLASS. It follows Tyler’s 2024 album CHROMAKOPIA, which he released to critical acclaim and new commercial heights – it marked his third consecutive album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts and held that title for the first 3 weeks of its release.

The release of DON’T TAP THE GLASS happens in the midst of his sold out CHROMAKOPIA: The World Tour, which has been celebrated as one of the year’s best tours. Tyler just concluded 4 sold out nights in New York City – 2 at Manhattan’s iconic Madison Square Garden and 2 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center – and completes the North American segment of the tour next week before heading to Australia, New Zealand and Asia through the end of September.

2. Meklit ft. Brandee Younger – Tizita

The world-renowned vocalist, songwriter, composer, and cultural strategist Meklit will release her new album and Smithsonian Folkways debut, A Piece of Infinity, on September 26th. Meklit is a former refugee born in Addis Ababa and based in San Francisco who has collaborated with everyone from Andrew Bird to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Music animates Meklit’s life even outside of her performances: she currently lectures as a visiting artist at Stanford University and hosts the Movement podcast, a multi-platform storytelling initiative that explores the intersection of migration and music, airing on PRX’s The World. Her music has been praised by The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and NPR, who described her songs as “a unique blend of jazz, Ethiopia, the San Francisco art scene and visceral poetry; it paints pictures in your head as you listen.”

On A Piece of Infinity, Meklit takes listeners on a journey into the Ethiopian music “galaxy.” Every song on the album has roots in traditional Ethiopian folk music, and Meklit’s process of arranging and recording the album’s nine tracks included researching, translating, re-composing, and juxtaposing a selection of folk songs into reimagined contemporary works. Musically, she veers from exuberant, romantic Ethio-jazz on opener “Ambassel,” to synth and vocal-driven indie rock, augmenting the pieces with a vast array of instrumentation from billowing harp to the krar, an Ethiopian six-stringed bowl-shaped lyre instrument. Over the course of the album, Meklit sings these traditional Ethiopian songs in multiple native languages, including Kembata, Amharic, and Oromo, along with two songs in English. They come together to form a complex body of work that communicates a core spirit of Ethiopian music and its diversity while acknowledging that no piece of art can fully encompass or capture a culture of over 80 languages, 300 dialects, and millions in diaspora worldwide.

Today, Meklit has shared a dreamlike original video for “Tizita” featuring Brandee Younger and directed by Sophiyya Nayar. The video follows two flower-headed figures (Ahon Gooptu and Mihika Miranda densely cloaked in living foliage), and reflects on the passage of time. “The flower heads are like seeing through a memory itself or through a dream,” Meklit describes, “where emotion and sensation are in charge, and we let go of the logic of everyday life.” Watch HERE.

About the song, Meklit writes: “‘Tizita’ is one of the most beloved traditional song forms of Ethiopia, expressing passionate longing and nostalgia. There have been so many versions of ‘Tizita,’ and I have been brewing mine for nearly a decade. I nurtured it by singing softly to myself while driving, walking, and living life. I knew this album would be the place for my ‘Tizita’ to bloom. Thanks to the brilliant Brandee Younger for bringing the glittering dreaminess of the harp to this much-loved tune.”

In addition to its musical innovation, A Piece of Infinity is also a work of cultural activism, showing that “tradition is alive and not a static object.” Meklit says that her interpretations of these songs bloom from her experiences as an immigrant, a poignant statement at a time when immigrant communities face peril and displacement. On her podcast, Meklit asks, “What do global movements of people sound like? Through solidarity, through music, we can come to a greater understanding.”

Getting at the spirit of community that the album seeks to foster, A Piece of Infinity includes guest appearances by Black women collaborators and musical friends like harpist Younger and flutist/saxophonist Camille Thurman. Meklit worked on two of the pieces – “Geefata” (a synth-driven track inspired by Ethiopian communal celebration songs), and “Stars in a Wide Field” (with original lyrics based on translations of traditional Kembata children’s riddles and Meklit’s dreams) – with her father. “Stars in a Wide Field” includes a line inspired by Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, the late musician/activist and founding member of The Freedom Singers.

A Piece of Infinity highlights songs and stories, exemplified by “Tizita,” that are traditionally performed by women and girls, celebrating the role they play in music and culture at large. The album was recorded entirely at the Bay Area’s Women’s Audio Mission, and much of its sound was inspired by Meklit’s newest chapter in life: as a mother to a six-year-old son. The album received funding from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative, and was originally conceived through a grant from the Creative Work Fund.

3. Kodak Black ft. DJ E Money & G6reddot – By Myself

Today, multi-platinum rapper Kodak Black releases his new single “By Myself”featuring South Florida risers DJ E Money and G6reddot. The booming cut samples the iconic strings from Fabolous’ 2007 Timbaland-produced hit, “Make Me Better (feat. NE-YO),” and leans into the idea that teamwork makes dreams work. “By Myself” mixes solemn orchestration with trap drums and big bass, while Kodak lays down a bluesy, slyly catchy melody for the hook: “I could do this by myself, but I prefer if we were together / You know I don’t really need no help, but it’d be nice if you helped me help you.” DJ E Money drops a slick verse and G6reddot lets loose his trademark gruff delivery — making clear that the track is as much about working together as it is a warning to any who’d betray the team. Kodak drives the point home with homespun wisdom in his closing verse: “We bust down at the table / You don’t go in your room with your plate.”

The “By Myself” video brings the concept to life, finding the three rappers taking over a small bar and celebrating across scenes involving cards, liquor, women, and so much cash that Kodak has to sweep it up with a pushbroom. In separate spaces, a pop-locking conductor leads a small orchestra, and Kodak is seen bringing roses to an overgrown cemetery. The video surpassed over 725k views and features a throwback cameo from NE-YO who also appeared in the intro skit. The skit pays homage to Fabolus and NE-YO’s cut and features influencer Big SLM TY. 

Recently Kodak received the key to the city in his home of Pompano Beach. Prior to that the hometown hero entered 2025 with serious momentum, dropping three full-length projects in less than two months at the end of the year. On Christmas Day, Kodak released Gift for the Streets, a star-studded affair featuring Lil Yachty, Veeze, Rob49, Taylor So Made, No Limit Records OG C-Murder, DJ E Money, and more, not to mention a partial Hot Boys reunion between Juvenile and BG. But Kodak season kicked off in November with a pair of mixtapes: the haunted and inward-looking Dieuson Octave (see “Catch Fire”), titled after the artist’s actual birth name, and Trill Bill (see “News Matt”), which for the most part captured him from a different angle — the “fly, fresh, and foolish” side, to quote Kodak.

Before all that, Kodak was focused on his record label Vulture Love’s first official project, Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies on Earth, which dropped last summer featuring contributions from VVSNCE, Lil Crix, G6reddot, GorditoFlo, Big Fredo, Jay Dirty, Taji Akeil, and more. Listen HERE.

4. Key Glock – The World Is Ourz

Continuing a banner year, multiplatinum-certified Memphis, TN rap superstar Key Glock unleashes the music video for his new single “The World Is Ourz” today. Watch HERE. Of course, it serves as the latest single from his chart-dominating and unanimously acclaimed new album, Glockaveli, out now. Alongside the announcement, he shares the second single off the album, “Julia,” a heartfelt, groovy track that continues the sonic journey DON WEST has been taking audiences around the world on.

12. OT The Real & 38 Spesh – Never Saw Me

After collab projects with Statik Selektah and AraabMUZIK for his Benny The Butcher executive-produced Black Soprano Family debut album, Zombie, which featured appearances from Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, 38 Spesh and Rome Streetz, rising Philly emcee OT The Real, is back and he brought 38 Spesh with him.

While OT recently co-starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in the Peacock Original Series Long Bright River and appeared on Benny The Butcher’s Summertime Butch 2 project (“Gold Plated Leica”), his collaboration with 38 SPesh feels long overdue. 

With Possession With Intent, OT gets the best of both worlds, as Spesh not only contributes vocals, but also produced the entirety of the project; as Spesh reminds everyone how nice he is on the production side. 

Possession With Intent also features guest appearances from Dave East, Grafh, Flee Lord & Amir Ali.

13. Asake & Tiakola – Badman Gangsta

Global Afrobeats trailblazer Asake returns with a new single, “BADMAN GANGSTA,” distributed via gamma. Featuring acclaimed French artist Tiakola, the track is a swaggering yet soulful celebration of self-made success. It blends sounds, languages, and cultures into a smooth, sun-drenched anthem.

Trevor Jackson, the R&B powerhouse and acclaimed actor, makes his highly anticipated musical return with “Friend of a Friend,” the first release from his forthcoming project via UnitedMasters. 18. Morgan Wallen ft. Lil Wayne & Rick Ross – Miami

After teasing a new rendition of his Keith Whitley-inspired “Miami” in The Magic City itself during his walkouts at Hard Rock Stadium on July 11 and 12, Morgan Wallen’s remix featuring rappers Lil Wayne and Rick Ross is available now. Listen HERE.
 
Wallen first tossed the idea of featuring a rapper on the Charlie Handsome produced song during his interview with Theo Von in April, stating at the time, “It seemed like it could use a rapper on there. I didn’t end up using a feature… it’s one of those songs where it wouldn’t be surprising if we got a remix and did that once it’s out.”
 
“Miami” is track 35-of-37 on Wallen’s fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, released in May. I’m The Problem remained atop the Billboard 200 chart for eight consecutive weeks in the US and Canada, and has already yielded four No. 1’s at Country radio, including “Just In Case,” which is on its third week at No. 1, and the title track, which remained at No. 1 for eight weeks.

20. Daniel Caesar – Have A Baby (With Me)

Daniel Caesar releases new single “Have A Baby (With Me),” the first taste of his forthcoming album Son Of Spergy, which is set for release later this year via Republic Records. 26. UMI – Somewhere New/What Now

Ascendant young R&B star UMI – has revealed details of her highly anticipated Epic Records debut, people stories, out August 22nd. Inspired by the stories of fans and loved ones, the project explores the depth of the human experience and the surprising inner connectedness of our life stories. She sings about ego, healing, identity, and connection—all filtered through her signature tranquil songwriting and seamless ability to weave across genres like soul, R&B, folk, and pop.

people stories is UMI’s most personal and expansive to date, showcasing an even wider range of soundscapes and feelings. Along with outros from her therapist during the writing process, the songs weave narratives together and the album’s recorded-as-live performances pay tribute to life’s beautiful messiness. “I wanted to be the storyteller, the vessel to express everyone’s stories,” UMI says of crafting the record. “We all live very similar lives, same colors, slightly different hues. 27. Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist – Alfredo 2

The duo hosted a full album listening in support of their Babylon collaboration at hvw8 Gallery in LA last week, and a select number of lucky fans were invited to see a special advance screening of Alfredo: The Movie at Los Angeles’ Brain Dead Studios cinema. Directed by Nick Walker and shot on location in Japan, Alfredo: The Movie offers a cryptic glimpse into the Alfredo 2 world. Equal parts yakuza noir and Ghost Dog, the film casts Gibbs and The Alchemist as partners navigating a seedy, hyper-stylized version of the city’s criminal underground. They’ve traded pasta for noodles, operating out of a humble ramen shop while studying ancient methods of preparation, boiling bones by day and laundering money by night. Alleyway negotiations, back room deals in smoky izakayas, and warrior monk training montages––it’s a bold reintroduction to the duo’s creative universe steeped in noir aesthetics, shadowy criminal underworlds, and razor-sharp bars.

Freddie Gibbs has never fit neatly into a box. Over the last decade, he’s evolved from underground tactician to cultural heavyweight—someone equally at home bodying a Madlib beat as he is acting alongside indie film darlings. But Gibbs’ evolution goes far beyond music. His breakout performance in the indie film Down With The King stunned critics, earning him praise from the New York Times, where A.O. 30. Double Tiger ft. Sly & Robbie – Yearning

Easy Star Records artist and producer Double Tiger (aka Jay Spaker) is back with a powerful new single, “Yearning,” marking his first release since 2020’s acclaimed The Journey. 31. K Camp ft. Quintellii – Your Type

However, X-Raided sums up the intent in one couplet, “We gotta come together again. It’s vital instead of looking at each other as rivals.” 

By uniting, they’re rallying Sacramento for what has the potential to be a historic era…

As the story goes, Sacramento was divided between two neighborhoods. On one side you had Mozzy’s neighborhood and, on the other, you had the neighborhood called home by X-Raided, Brotha Lynch Hung, and C-Bo. X-Raided had always acted as a voice of reason, trying to calm the fires in the middle. Eventually, Mozzy affiliate Bootleg Kev introduced Mozzy and X-Raided following mutual respect given by one another on various podcasts. X-Raided found himself on the receiving end of a call from Mozzy, and the seeds for this collaboration would be planted.

He told X-Raided, “I appreciate the opportunity to do something honorable for the city.”

X-Raided commented, “While all of this is deeper than rap, rap music both amplified and escalated these conflicts. With that in mind, I hope we can also use Hip-hop culture to amplify the core message of unity and positivity that we delivered with ‘Still Outside.’ I told Mozzy, ‘I want Golden 1 Arena. I want Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty. I want us to have our own Pop Out.’ And I mean it. It’s time to focus on the big picture and use our considerable cultural influence to make it a reality. I have a dream.”

This is the first step…

It follows X-Raided’s latest collaboration with Tech N9ne on “Damnation.” The latter has already reeled in over half-a-million streams and 1.1 million YouTube views on the music video. It arrived on the heels of “Outside (Three Kings),” which united X-Raided with a cohort of fellow NorCal icons—Brotha Lynch Hung and C-Bo. It has just begun to gain traction with over 385k YouTube views on the audio. Receiving acclaim, Underground Hip Hop Blog urged, “witness three kings reclaim their throne.”

It landed in the wake of “Queen of Hearts.” The latter has exploded with 2.6 million YouTube views on the music video in less than a month. Plus, Vibe touted it among “New Hip-Hop Music To Ride And Vibe To.”

“Queen of Hearts” continued a prolific streak for the rapper, landing on the heels of “Hail Mary.” 

X-Raided has a life story that could be likened to the hip-hop equivalent of The Shawshank Redemption. In 1992, a 17-year-old X-Raided was tried as an adult and indicted on a gang-related homicide case, resulting in a charge of 1^st-degree murder. The case was a first of its kind for the prosecution, who were allowed to play excerpts of X’s debut album Psycho Active for the jury who ultimately sentenced him to 31 years to life in prison. After 26 years, 5 months, and 26 days served, he was granted an early release by the parole board, something he never thought possible. This new lease on life directly results from the mentorship of Lyle and Erik Menendez, with whom X formed a lifelong friendship behind prison walls. The brothers played a significant role in X being free today, guiding him through rehabilitative programs and service positions.

X-Raided had to defeat the possibility of facing the Death Penalty before his trial where his lyrics were used against him in court, something that would not be allowed today due to AB 2799 / the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act. Despite maintaining his innocence and the fact that no murder weapon was ever found in his case, X-Raided was convicted, something he says would never have happened had this act existed three decades earlier. In 2022, he discussed the bill’s significance in an exclusive interview with TMZ after its passage: TMZ Interview.

While incarcerated, his creative fire never diminished. He managed to release twelve albums; he cracked the Billboard charts multiple times and sold millions of units. The State of California even filed a “Son of Sam” lawsuit against him in an attempt to confiscate his royalties, but the California Supreme Court struck down the law, allowing X’s career to legally continue.

His release was partially due to a supportive letter written to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility parole board by the Menendez brothers. Upon his release, he signed with Tech N9ne’s Strange Music Label. In addition to making music, he uses his freedom and platform to advocate for lasting change. He donates his time working with youth, most recently through the Augmented Forensic Youth Program (AFYP), helping young people positively re-enter the community. His mission is to decrease recidivism and increase restorative justice. X-Raided has earned praise from various governors, senators, members of U.S. Congress, and law enforcement.

It’s a flex-heavy, steel-drum-laced banger produced by Danny G Beats, and the video finds Rio linking up with Zillionaire late night, cash in hand, cars gleaming. This one follows the recent “Great Day” (trending on YouTube at #19) and keeps building momentum ahead of his upcoming album F.L.I.N.T. and 60+ date Welcome Home Tour. Rio’s clearly in his bag right now funny, focused, and still rapping like nobody else out.

Today, visionary writer, producer, and vocalist BBYKOBE releases his inventive debut EP, She Luv BBYKOBE, out now on Warner Records. The six-song project is an artful masterclass in cutting-edge rap and R&B, demonstrating the qualities that have made the Detroit hitmaker a go-to for Playboy Carti, Future, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign, and The Weeknd, among others. BBYKOBE’s long-awaited set follows another in a string of huge behind-the-scenes wins: He scored three placements on JACKBOYS 2 earlier this month, producing “PBT” featuring Scott, Tyla, and Vybz Kartel; co-producing “CHAMPAIN & VACAY” starring Scott and Don Toliver, and contributing vocals/adlibs to “OUTSIDE” alongside Scott and YoungBoy Never Broke Again. 52. DB.Boutabag ft. Big Sad 1900 – Not At Home

DB.Boutabag earned a reputation for his singular devotion to the hustle, but recent developments in the Sacramento rapper’s life have given him a renewed purpose for building his bankroll. Today, the 25-year-old rapper shares The Real Boutabag II, a focused and motivated effort that reflects his new perspective as a first-time father. Giving his fans a deep look into his life as a working rapper, DB peppers his punchline-filled bars with hints at how much fatherhood changed him. As he says on recent single “A Dad Talk“: “Get inside my feelings, watch me sh*t talk my ass off/On these beats, I be in that mode with my mask off.” 

A sequel to his popular 2022 EP The Real Boutabag, which featured fan-favorite singles like “Out The Way,” the second volume doesn’t let the heavier subject matter stop DB from bringing the bass-boosted West Coast energy for which he is known. The rapper’s one-liners are in rare form, whether he is sneering at lazy hangers-on on the DaBoii collaboration “Drink Bleach” or getting a raucous party started on  songs like the recent single “Both Ways.” Throughout, DB remains focused, ignoring neighborhood distractions and the trappings of fame to keep his eye on the biggest prize of all: financial security for his family. Along with The Real Boutabag II, the South Sacramento native connects with L.A. street rap hero Big Sad 1900 for the video for “Not At Home.” Layering a wistful, pitch-shifted pop sample over classic West Coast keys and knocking percussion, DB talks his smack, annihilating fakes and reveling in the hustle: “If you wanna jump in your bag, you gotta take a risk/All I gotta do is slick talk, I won’t pay for sh*t,” he spits, in his deadpan delivery. Big Sad 1900 adds his own perspective on his quietly confident verse, creating a case study in being unbothered: “I just count a hunnid, when you n****s making diss songs,” he announces. In the video, DB and Big Sad connect backstage, where they sip dirty soda and prepare to rock a West Coast crowd.

Since emerging from the South Sacramento street scene in 2020, DB.Boutabag has established himself as one of the most prolific slick talkers on either coast. With a style inspired by the greats from L.A. and The Bay, including the late Mac Dre, DB has generated tens of millions of streams across platforms, thanks to West Coast anthems like “1st Off,” “Don’t Choke,” “Cocky,” and “Fettucine.” The rapper has earned praise from the likes of Pitchfork, The FADER, and Passion of the Weiss, and has collaborated with everybody from 03 Greedo to Skilla Baby to Kamaiyah to the legendary Drakeo The Ruler on their street hit “Top Rapper.”

 Tallia Storm just dropped her new steamy video single “Take It Off” right in time for the weekend. 

Tallia was first discovered at 13 by Sir Elton John, who chose her to open for his concert in Scotland. This moment led her to pursue her dreams as a singer and songwriter. After hosting Capital Breakfast, Scotland’s biggest radio show, she stepped away last year to fully focus on her music, which blends sleek pop with R&B-rooted production and emotive vocals.

Her new single “Take It Off” is a confident, sensual track produced by Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Camper (Justin Bieber, H.E.R., Kehlani), who also executive produced her upcoming EP.
