Cleveland Classic History…Did You Know The Real Hit Maker? Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother, Richard, formed the 1970s duo The Carpenters. She was a drummer of considerable skill, but it is for her vocal performances that she is best remembered.

Although Luther Vandross was an accomplished songwriter who penned songs for himself and artists like Aretha Franklin, he was also loved for his ability to reinterpret songs that we all knew and loved.
